QuiltCon 2015: Michael Miller Spring Cotton Couture Fabric Challenge

The Michael Miller fabric challenge using their Spring Cotton Couture line produced an array of pastel and very spring colored quilts, as it should be! As usual the award winners for the category yard are at the bottom of the post.

QuiltCon 2015: Handwork category quilts

Yes, handwork and modern quilting do go hand in hand. Actually almost all quilting traditions and techniques can be seen in some way in the quilts at QuiltCon and other modern quilting exhibitions. Maybe it’s the aesthetic that defines the modern quilting “movement”?, and that in itself is also broad. But there is definitely something going on! And I like it.

The Handwork category was sponsored by Sulky. There was more than one quilt (and even in other categories) that were made as a call to create quilts using one of Sherri Lynn Wood’s improv scores from her new book The Improv Handbook for the Modern Quilter. To honor that we’ll start out with one of Sherri Lynn Wood’s quilts and will end, as usual, with the winners of the category.

Stitch Modern 2015

Stitch Modern 2015 Piedmont Center for the Arts

The East Bay Modern Quilters are proud to present Stitch Modern 2015, our 4th annual quilt show at the Piedmont Center for the Arts. As a group, East Bay Modern focuses on modern design and personal expression through quilting. As a non-juried show, there are no hard rules – this is quilting our own way, whether it’s with the latest fabrics and traditional patterns, or free piecing with no pattern at all!
