Here is Part 2 of the piecing category from QuiltCon 2016. Some super interesting piecing going on, that is for sure. Congratulations to the makers/designers.
Next up is the minimalist category.

Sort of sad to finalize coverage of the exhibitions at PIQF 2014. The final quilts come from a number of categories, including the special exhibition on Maps, and Mountain Art Quilters. Have a few more exhibitors on the docket to cover over the next few months so stay tuned.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
What a scrumptious day at Alden Lane Nursery to see their annual “Quilting in The Garden” show. Beautiful quilts hanging all over their vast property amongst the flowers and trees, all blowing in the wind!
First some shots of the whole scene and then we’ll zero in on a few quilts (only a fraction unfortunately!). Photography a little challenging as one is looking up taking photos against a sunny sky, so we’ll show you what we can, and enjoy the dappled light. If you’re in the area, don’t miss this event next year!
Featured artists this year were local celebrities Diana McClun and Laura Nownes, and from Oregon, Jean Wells and the Quilt of Sisters. There were also quilts by local quilters, some with booths. There certainly were beautiful quilts everywhere. Kind of dreamy! Take a gander….

Quilting in The Garden at Alden Lane Nursery, back of #127 Star Medallion by Diana McClun & Laura Nownes…I spy Pop Rox!
Quilting in The Garden at Alden Lane Nursery, #42 Modern Drunkard for a Missionary by Melissa Draper
Quilting in The Garden at Alden Lane Nursery, #168 Crazy Quilt Bugs by Diana McClun and Laura Nownes
Quilting in The Garden at Alden Lane Nursery, #122 The Giant Tumble by Diana McClun and Laura Nownes
On a visit to Diana McClun’s studio, she pulled out the sampler quilt she made with Pop Rox while teaching a class on beginning samplers–from her and Laura Nownes‘ book Quilts! Quilts!! Quilts!!!, chapter12. It combines a variety of beginning sampler blocks that you can compose onto any configuration you want and the book gives 4 samples of compositions if you don’t want to design your own. This one is a fifth. I’ll have to try one some day!
She let me borrow it to take photos to show you so here it is!
Now it’s time to round up more Pop Rox projects, especially since many of them are currently on display at Quilt Market 2014 in Pittsburgh at the Andover Fabrics booth (photos coming!) First off, let check in on the great projects Liz of Fat Chicks Quilts made using Pop Rox. I always love everything she does!!
First off is the Beatle Bag by Abbey Lane Quilts. A great travel bag (or sewing bag!) that can be used with a variety on inserts, and has such great options for details.
Next up is the Harry Hippo Pattern by Two Little Banchees. We love the butt shot!
Thanks for playing with Pop Rox Liz!
And more quilts from the Voices in Cloth 2014 exhibition:

More Voices in Cloth 2014!
What’s really fun is seeing these quilts again since it was many weeks ago I originally took these pictures. Enjoy!

I was pretty happy when Jamie Kalvestran sent me photos of Pop Rox on her popular Original Scrap-bag™ pattern. I LOVE her bags. Jamie is an experienced product designer as well as a sewing pattern designer and print pattern designer. AND she blogs. There is her print & pattern design blog, A Pattern a Day, her sewing pattern blog, Scrap-bags, and Small Town Gardens. Her patterns can be found in independent quilt stores or you can always get a downloadable pdf through Jamie here.
Take a look at this Original Scrap-bag™ with Pop Rox, and of course I’ve picked more of her things to show you after that, including more bags and quilts, and a link to a pdf catalog to all the cool patterns for her Chickadee fabric line with Andover fabrics. Kind of to die for!

I came upon Pattern Revolution by way of Carla Crim of The Scientific Seamstress, and so glad I did. A superb site dedicated to “Encouraging and Educating the Modern Sewist” this site has the BEST photos, many courtesy of Suzanne Winter Photography. It is a site contributed to by a whole collective of women, so the projects and patterns are many and varied in both skill level and type. Focused on electronic pdf patterns, one can find patterns for baby, girls, boys, women, toys, bags and accessories, PLUS sewing tutorials and inspiration, fun sew alongs, and a featured designer series. Oh and did I mention, TONS of prizes and giveaways!
It’s well done and accessible to any sewist. And its cool-at least I think so. Take a look at just the cutest ruffle dress and vintage romper done in Pop Rox. And off course I will show you a sneak peek at other cool things you can find over there at Pattern Revolution!
